Bringing Christianity into Politics

As people who wear the name of Christ, we should all be very much attuned to the many claims and counter-claims being tossed back and forth in the presidential campaigns this year. We already know it is our civic duty to pray for our leaders, but when it comes to making a decision on who to vote for in the race that decides the leader for our country of over 304,000,000r 304,000,000

people, we need to consider our vote thoughtfully.

Sometimes it’s easy to be complacent about voting for a presidential candidate. After all, we tend to think, what’s one vote in the midst of so many that are cast? There are times we feel that even making the effort to vote is useless, but let’s be reminded that our one vote, when added to God’s one vote, can move mountains and change lives.

It’s important that we don’t become a campaigning machine on our own, deciding who is the “right man”, but rather realizing that we need to begin a thorough study on each candidate as an individual. We need to prayerfully seek out the truths of their campaigns, look at their personal efforts towards Godly attributes and cast away all untruths that may have been told or implied about them.

A good way to start researching the candidates is to check out their web sites and read what they have to say there, all the while remembering that those words have been carefully chosen to represent what they want you to think about them. Then begin to take the time to look up their voting record histories, and see how they stood on major issues that are important to you and to God’s people. Read newspaper articles, e-zine articles and books they may have written, again, keeping in mind that the written word of man does not always ring as true as God’s word does.

Look for the things in the presidential candidate that connects him to your knowledge of the things of God, and the truths from the Word of God. As you do that, ask in reverent prayer of supplication that God will supply you with the knowledge that allows your vote to be cast for the candidate that He would have you vote for. With a little diligence towards study on your part, and a willingness to hear from God in your heart, the vote you make will be certainly be one that is settled quite clearly by the Holy Spirit.

\”Jacob Have I Loved; Esau Have I Hated.\” (John Calvin)

Commentary by John Calvin on Romans 9:10-13Romans 9:10-13

10 Not only so, but Rebecca also conceived by one, by our father Isaac. 11 For being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls, 12 it was said to her, “The elder will serve the younger.” 13 Even as it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

.

And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calls;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

Does Truth Matter Anymore? John MacArthur Part 5

“Everywhere is apathy. Nobody cares whether that which is preached is true or false. A sermon is a sermon whatever the subject; only, the shorter it is the better.” Those words were written by Charles Spurgeon MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO! Yet, he might have just as easily been describing the state of the church at the beginning of the 21st Century. Well, in this “tell-it-like-it-is” indictment of the attitudes, methods and approaches of much of the modern church, Pastor John MacArthur picks up where Charles Spurgeon left off.
